The photo says it all. Social movements are on the rise. The problem? Lack of effective representation.
During the preparatory meeting for the G20 Social Summit in Rio de Janeiro (held on 08/20/2024), there were discussions on global governance reform and the fight against hunger and poverty, with strong participation from left-wing social movements.
While these debates were essential, the lack of engagement from the right-wing civil society is evident. This emblematic photo, in my personal analysis, shows the strong presence of leftist movements, which always carry their banners (literally). And I admire them for that!
The problem? This imbalance in participation raises questions about democratic effectiveness, where active involvement from both sides is crucial for public policies to reflect a diversity of perspectives. The social right seems to be asleep.
The solution? Those who represent the right need to understand this and actively participate in these spaces, with EFFECTIVENESS! And with urgency!
